After four months of competition, the Austin Recycles Games have ended, and the winners are … District 6 (most improved) and District 8 (most recycled). The winners were announced at the Austin Earth Day Festival last month, where Austin Resource Recovery Director Bob Gedert also revealed that throughout the competition, the entire city of Austin increased the amount of material being recycled by seven percent.
“It really should be no surprise that two of the most politically conservative districts in Austin won the award,” said a representative from Council Member Don Zimmerman’s office (District 6). “After all, the root word of conservatism is conserve.”
To cap off the competition, attendees at the Austin Earth Day Festival gathered together to form a human recycling symbol, which you can see in the aerial photo above.
