Climate Change is Killing Santa Claus: The Story of the Children’s Climate March

Like all good stories, this one begins on Facebook. A few weeks ago I was spending some time casually scrolling through photos of my friends spring break vacations and checking up on what cat videos they think are cute this week… you know, just being productive, when I stumbled upon this post –

“Solar panels save the world better than dirty energy does. We think you should solar up your energy.” – signed Olivia and Amber.

All day I could not stop thinking about that post, and not just because it was a departure from the litany of birth and wedding announcements that I usually see on Facebook. I couldn’t stop thinking about it because it was so profoundly honest and sincere. I knew I had to figure out who these girls were.

And that’s how I met Girl Scout Troop 471.

Austin's own Girl Scout Troop 471 is hosting a Children's Climate March on Saturday, April 25th at 9am. You can learn more about it and RSVP here>>
