Keep Austin Beautiful to Honor Winners at Annual Awards Brunch February 4th

For 29 years, Keep Austin Beautiful has been recognizing the outstanding achievements of businesses, individuals, and communities who clean, beautify, and protect the Austin environment by awarding Keep Austin Beautiful Awards in multiple categories!

The Keep Austin Beautiful Awards serve to distinguish those who demonstrate continued commitment to Austin’s vibrancy and serve as an inspiration for others. For these reasons and many more, Keep Austin Beautiful will celebrate the Award Winners at the 29th Annual Awards Brunch to be held on Wednesday, February 4th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.

At this time, Keep Austin Beautiful would like to recognize the 2015 finalists and commend them for setting the standard for environmental leadership, restoring natural spaces, taking action to create a litter-free Austin, and fostering the next generation of environmental stewards.

• Beautification – Improved an area through landscaping, tree planting, artwork, architecture or other means.

o Finalists: Willowbrook Reach Project and Shoal Creek at Allendale Restoration

• Community Involvement – Inspired community involvement and/or community ownership in order to clean, beautify, or restore an area or promote environmental stewardship.

o Finalists: Capital Cruises and Linda McCoy-Schriever

• Education – Raised awareness about environmental stewardship through educational activities. Includes youth and adults, schools, organizations and other groups.

o Finalists: Lamar Middle School and Not Your Ordinary School (NYOS) Charter School

• Dennis Hobbs Individual Achievement – Provided visionary leadership or personal action in environmental efforts.

o Finalists: Richard Maness and Rick Cofer

• Litter Abatement – Removed or prevented litter and committed to keeping an area clean.

o Finalists: Southwood Neighborhood Association and Malcolm Yeatts

• Youth Achievement – Implemented or maintained outstanding youth projects or activities to clean, beautify or restore an area or promote environmental stewardship.

o Finalists: Carlos Venegas – 7th grade, Martin Middle School and Lorenzo Sanchez– 12th grade, Eastside Memorial High School
