The Second Annual- Texas Wild Rice Festival - Celebrating our Central Texas Springs (FREE FAMILY FUN!)

Mark your Calendars, the 2nd Annual Texas Wild Rice Festival will be April 11th, 2015 at Sewell Park!

This will be our second year gathering to learn and celebrate the unique ecosystem that is the San Marcos River. Last year was such a success with over 3,000 participants we are excited to host another one.

The waters of the San Marcos River have attracted humans for thousands of years making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited community in North America! The headwaters of the San Marcos is home to eight endangered species, four of which are endemic to San Marcos - including the Texas Wild Rice! One of the main purposes of this festival is to spread this knowledge and educate all who attend.

We also want to help educate people about the importance of our Central Texas springs and the threats that our water supply and aquifers are undergoing.

This special place deserves celebration and we will be doing so with music, art, science, food, local vendors, and free hands-on workshops. We also be screening the award winning documentary film Yakona with a live orchestral score being shown on the Alamo Drafthouse Outdoor Screen! You won't want to miss it.

We will also have live music throughout the day such as Guy Forsyth & The Hot Nut Riveters, Henry and the Invisibles among others. We have engaging speakers coming to share and interactive displays and demonstrations teaching about everything from water conservation to biofuels and movement arts!

This festival is FREE and funded by community support. Donations are accepted. Texas Wild Rice Festival is a non-profit organization and appreciates your support!
