From the Sierra Club –

Thursday October 5th, the Austin City Council will be voting on whether or not to add a formal opposition to the Border Wall to the city’s federal legislative agenda. This is part of a growing movement of environmentalists, indigenous peoples, immigrants, and border residents organizing across Texas cities in opposition to this racist wall.

Since assuming office, President Trump has acted on his racist rhetoric by pushing to secure funding for a border wall, the construction of which has already begun in the Rio Grande Valley. A border wall would devastate border communities and cause substantial environmental damage while failing to increase its stated goal of safety.

While border communities are some of the safest in the nation, Trump & Congress are using the promise of this wall as a tool to sow racism, drum up fear and separate families. As we deal with the wall, communities are also fighting to save DACA and oppose unconstitutional “show me your papers” laws that target our immigrant brothers and sisters. At this critical moment in our state and nation, we must organize across issues and constituencies in order to form our own wall of defense against racism and tyranny. ✊🏾

Please join the Austin Sierra Club and others at Scholz Garten this Sunday to hear stories from local activists who took part in the largest border wall resistance protests to date in Mission, TX this summer, updates on border wall policy, and ways that you can get involved to help stop the environmental and human rights disaster that a border wall poses.

Groups and individuals are invited to join us as we continue to organize resistance against Trump’s border wall and discuss how we as environmentalists can support the ongoing resistance to Trump’s attacks on our immigrant neighbors, friends, and family.
