From the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center –

Nature Nights are free, family-friendly events filled with exciting explorations of native plants, animals and the ecology of Central Texas. Each evening features interactive presentations, hikes with experts in their fields, and nature crafting for kids of all ages.

Cool attractions and activities for Outdoor Recreation Nature Night:

  • Climb on the rock wall provided by Portable Adrenaline
  • Learn about backyard birding from The Texas Blue Jay Project
  • Get camping and hiking tips from City of Austin Park Rangers
  • Explore more about birds with Travis Audubon
  • Get inspired to get outdoors with Earth Native Wilderness School
  • Learn about exploring in and around Austin on two wheels with Bicycle Sport Shop
  • Keep your energy up with free samples from Wella Bar and snacks from H-E-B
  • Practice geocaching with a scavenger hunt
  • Take a bird walk with Wildflower Center native plant expert and resident bird nerd, Joe Marcus (bring binocs if you have them!)
  • Try an aerial yoga demo with Yogapeutics
  • Participate in a trail race with Spectrum Trail Racing (7 p.m.)
  • Learn about gear with local outfitter Whole Earth Provision Company
  • Make a kite!

Free admission 6 – 9 p.m.

Regular admission is charged during the day.

June 7: Outdoor Recreation

The free family fun begins with opportunities to get active outdoors — together! Hiking, climbing, games and more will get kids of all ages moving and exploring in nature.

 

June 14: Fantastic Creatures & Where to Find Them

Furry or scaled, nocturnal or diurnal, Texas animals are all around us. Learn about the mammals and reptiles who inhabit Hill Country landscapes and how to best observe and protect them.

 

June 21: Bats!

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s the nocturnal winged mammal Austin is best known for: bats! They live at the Congress Bridge, Bracken Cave, and in lots of nooks and crannies in between. Discover what makes these mysterious creatures so unique and important.

 

June 28: Water

From the Wildflower Center’s Dinosaur Creek to the cool depths of Barton Springs, water brings joy to Central Texans, especially in the summer. Learn how the wet stuff supports plant and animal life in areas conspicuous and hidden.
