You Are Here: An Earth Day Art Show will celebrate its opening day at the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve on Saturday, April 22nd. The exhibit will display art in a variety of mediums from both local and far-reaching artists.

The day will begin at 4:30pm with a guided hike by Paul Montgomery, a Wild Basin volunteer trail guide. Participants are encouraged to sign up ahead of time at the following website. Hikers can expect to learn about local geography and plant species.

You Are Here’s opening reception will take place from 6pm – 8pm. Attendants will be able to enjoy over 50 pieces of work from artists in all forms. Live music will be provided by The Monkberries (Denton) and Dana Falconberry (Austin), both artists carrying prevalent themes of nature in their songs.

This family-friendly event will have art activities available for all ages. Additionally, guests are invited to tour the studio of the Wild Basin’s current artist in residence, Andrea Wolf.

Renee Cornue, a St. Edwards University student double majoring in photocommunications and environmental policy, took it upon herself to organize this show as a way to combine her passions and involve the community in something special. With the help of colleague Faith Robbins and longtime friend Marissa Hunt, Cornue achieved the ambitious goal of fully coordinating and curating an independent art show.

“You Are Here is an opportunity for the community to celebrate nature and its ability to inspire creativity in many forms,” Cornue said.

Funding for this show has been generously provided to Cornue, a Hook Scholar, by the Al Hook Endowed Wild Basin Creative Research Fund.

The event is free and open to the public. You Are Here will be on display until May 27
