A Greener Lent?

As I was commuting to my son’s school on Wednesday, I was surprised to hear the Bobby Bones Show (96.7 KISS FM) talking about what they would give up for Lent. Lent begins the day after Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) and is a period of 40 days that many in Western Christianity use as a preparation period prior to Easter. Although most people consider giving up a vice (chocolate, fast food, etc.), it’s rare for participants to do something proactive – except for those on KISSFM who reach a younger demographic.

As a co-host of the Bobby Bones Show, Amy caught the attention of listeners when she mentioned she may stop throwing away things she shouldn’t and start recycling more. That is, she's considering being more green.  Hopefully, Amy’s actions will go beyond Easter, yet she prompted the listeners to consider going green as well.

The promising news about the KISSFM team is they endeavor to “walk the talk.” In the Lifestyle menu of their home page, you can select the Go Green option to explore many ways around Austin to save energy, save money and save the planet. With videos, articles and useful links to other green websites, you or your children can get a good start for a greener lifestyle. Whether or not you are an advocate of Lent, what will you do to be greener now (reduce your carbon footprint)?
