How to Get Around: A SXSW Guide

SXSW Road Closure

What's Inside...

Each year, SXSW brings thousands of visitors to Austin, and with them comes a whole lot of traffic. The City of Austin has released a map of road closures during the festival, but the best option is to avoid driving downtown altogether. In particular on Friday (when President Obama will be speaking at SXSW), Mayor Adler is advising as many people as possible to work from home.

Additional tips for getting around town during SXSW include:

  • Ride your bike – Biking is one of the best options during SXSW. If you don’t have a bike of your own, B-cycle will be at SXSW in full force, moving bikes around to keep up with demand and manning special valet stations near the convention center.
  • Take public transportation – Capital Metro is expanding late night service hours on MetroRapid and MetroRail. A full SXSW schedule is available here>>
  • Use a car2go – During SXSW car2go will have four Festival Drop Zones for easy and convenient parking near the convention center. More info>>
  • Hop on a pedicab – During the festival the streets will be swarming with them, so just hop on and enjoy the ride.
