Healthy Travis County

What's Inside...

Austin/Travis County is one of the top 10 healthiest counties in Texas, according to a new report from the University of Wisconsin and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The report, released annually, ranks counties across the U.S. on 30 different factors that impact health. In this year’s study, Austin/Travis County ranked ninth out of 241 reporting counties in Texas.

Despite the positive ranking, there is still a lot of work to be done in Austin. The study also pointed out that nearly half of Austin’s entire population is overweight or obese and that about 91,000 Austinites have diabetes.

Inequality in access to the factors that lead to good health is also a major problem in Austin. “…We continue to address health inequities and conditions, with the support of city leadership and community partners, in order to expand the opportunity for all to be healthy,” said the Director of Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services, in a press release.
