Austin continues to be a leader in the adoption of renewable energy with the help of a new $4.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. This week the city’s electric utility, Austin Energy, announced that it had won the award, which will enable it to, “begin working on one of the world’s toughest energy problems – how to integrate the reliable electric grid with solar energy, which is only created when the sun shines.”

 

“To increase the value and feasibility of mass adoption of solar energy on the electric grid, it is important to transform intermittent power generation into a more reliable energy source,” said Debbie Kimberly, Austin Energy Vice President of Customer Energy Solutions, in a press release. “The ultimate goal is to reliably and affordably enable solar generation beyond practical limits…” More info>>
