Plaza Life: A Day in a Downtown Plaza

The Downtown Austin Alliance invites you to a new event, PlazaLife, April 27-28. This 2-day event at the Frost Bank Tower Plaza (401 Congress) will demonstrate a variety of activities that can take place regularly if we re-imagine how we use our downtown plazas and move the vision created in the Congress Avenue charrette forward. Over the two days, you can watch the plaza come to life with live performances, music, games, business gatherings, and more. Come and enjoy one of the free scheduled events or stop by the plaza any time to meet up with a friend, eat lunch, view the art and landscape installations, or just relax and watch the world go by on the Main Street of Texas. Sponsored by Thomas Properties Group and the DAA.

Friday, April 27
The morning will feature Issues & Eggs, a DAA educational event, highlighting the work that has led up to the event and how a growing international movement is pushing us to re-think and re-use public spaces. The panel will include local designers and Matthew Passmore of San Francisco based art and design studio Rebar.

In partnership with Art Alliance Austin, Friday afternoon will offer the opportunity for people to interact with Bubbleware: playful urban furniture from Rebar, enjoy lunch, and be treated to live music, a food market, and downtown retail showcase.

Friday concludes with a free sneak preview of the Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival taking place the same weekend in downtown and more live music on the plaza.

Saturday, April 28th
Start your day right with free yoga classes or a quiet place to enjoy a cup of coffee and the morning paper. Have a morning running group? This is the place to meet-up before hitting the trail!

Saturday afternoon will feature a fun opportunity for families with a chess meet-up, giant chess, and an additional opportunity to relax on the Rebar Bubbleware furniture.
