Your Green Week Ahead: 2 Guys on Your Head, Vegan Ice Cream, and Swift Fest

[Hike] Friday, August 28th from 9am to 10:30am the Save Our Springs Alliance is hosting a snorkel tour of Barton Springs Pool and a hike to two of Austin’s other major springs – Eliza and Sunken Gardens. Attendees will learn about the plants, animals, and geology of the pool and its springs. Tickets are $10 (plus the $3 pool entrance fee) and advance registration is requested. More info>>

Two Guys on Your Head will be headlining Friday's Hot Science, Cool Talks event.[Science Talk] Friday, August 28th from 5:45pm to 8:15pm the University of Texas is hosting another installment of its Hot Science – Cool Talks series at the UT Bates Recital Hall on campus. The evening kicks off with a community science fair featuring loads of hands-on activities about sustainability and the environment. After that, the talk will be delivered by Dr. Art Markman and Dr. Bob Duke of KUT’s Two Guys on Your Head. The question they’ll be answering is – if it’s unsustainable, why does it feel so good? The Sierra Club is hosting a bouldering outing on Saturday morning.

[Bouldering] Saturday, August 29th at 10am the Sierra Club is hosting a bouldering outing at Bull Creek District Park. Participants must bring their own climbing shoes, but chalk and a crash pad will be provided. Advance registration is requested. More info>>

[Festival] Saturday, August 29th from 5pm to 10pm the City

of Jonestown is hosting Swift Fest at Fireman’s Park, several miles west of Austin. The event is a celebration of the small migratory birds that make the City of Jonestown their seasonal home. There will be live music, food, drinks, and kid-friendly activities. The entire event is free and open to the public. More info>>


The Sierra Club is hosting a hike on the new Violet Crown Trail on Sunday.[Hike] Sunday, August 30th at 7:30am the Sierra Club is hosting a hike on the new Violet Crown Trail. The trail, supported by the Hill Country Conservancy, starts by Barton Springs Pool and runs along the Barton Creek Greenbelt and on toward Highway 290 for a total of six miles. Long term, there are plans to extend the trail for a total of 30 miles, all the way to Hays County. Saturday’s hike will start at the new trailhead at Highway 290 and Brodie Lane. More info>>
