Building Better Streets in Austin

Building Better Streets in Austin

Austin Street Design Guide

What's Inside...

The City of Austin is working to build streets that accommodate all modes of transportation (not just cars). And they’re doing it with some help from the new draft Austin Street Design Guide.

The guide is meant to assist city staff and private design professionals in applying and using a consistent approach to street design throughout Austin. The new guide will also serve as an update to older transportation plans that only took cars into account when looking at city streets. With the new guide, the city hopes to incorporate the needs of pedestrians, bicyclists, and public transit riders into the design of our streets. The guide also aims to work in tandem with CodeNEXT, Imagine Austin, and the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan.

The new Austin Street Design Guide was just unveiled to the public last week, but it is currently just in draft form. You can read through the entire guide here and make comments on it here.
