350 Austin December Open Meeting
December 18, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
From 350 Austin –
Our monthly general meetings are open to all! Join us on the third Tuesday of each month at First UU Church.
We’ll share updates on our current campaigns, discuss climate change issues, and learn about ways to get involved in the fossil-free revolution.
Although the IPCC’s report that we have twelve years to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% is rather dire, we actually know that this consensus-generated report very likely underestimates how rapidly global economic changes must occur if we are to avoid exceeding the 1.5 C of warming that may already be locked in. Since the release of the IPCC report in October, reports from other institutions in the last two weeks support 350 Austin’s position that time is running out faster than has been broadly publicized.
At this month’s meeting, 350 Austin co-founder Gil Starkey will be providing an update on the status of the climate crisis, including a report on COP 24. As a member of the Board of Directors, Gil will also be updating us on the Board’s directive in responding to the climate crisis. Co-founder Bobbie Tsukahara will then discuss the role that non-violent direct action (NVDA) will need to play in our campaigns beginning in 2019.
Despite the doom and gloom, we intend to make time to enjoy one another’s company as we share holiday treats.
Plan to arrive early as we have a lot of ground to cover and want to be sure we have time for merry munching!
Please bring holiday finger-foods and drinks to share, keeping in mind that we still do not have access to the church kitchen.
