Modular Origami

From Austin Creative Reuse –

Modular Oragami with Mia Burton

If you’d like to delve into the world of “modular origami” – the art of combining large numbers of folded paper units to make intricately constructed structures. Join us on Sunday the 22nd of January 2018.

Modular origami is a two-step process. First, the paper units must be folded, which requires precision and a calm mind. Next, the paper units must be securely combined – usually by inserting flaps into pockets. Modular origami also requires an eye for color combinations and patterns that work well together. I am always amazed at the ingenuity required to create models that satisfy both the aesthetic and engineering requirements of this art form.

Mia Burton has taught and/or displayed modular origami for programs at the Children’s Museum of Houston, Asian Family Support Services of Austin, Families with Children from China, Brazos Manor Retirement Community, First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin, and more. Mia is a proud member of OrigamiUSA.
