From Mighty Earth –

Join Mighty Earth for the Austin Clean Water Rally!

On Thursday, November 15th at 12pm, Austin’s McWholeFoods campaign will host a Clean Water Rally, bringing together local experts, stakeholders, and community members to publicly call on Whole Foods to commit to sustainability standards for their meat.

Right now, industrial meat production is the #1 source of water pollution in the United States. Growing corn and soy for feed at massive scales is leading to tremendous agricultural runoff and deforestation, poisoning our water and accelerating climate change. When big companies like Whole Foods and McDonald’s buy from these suppliers, they are funding this destructive process. Instead, they should be leading the way to more sustainable practice. Help us send Whole Foods a message that their customers demand higher sustainability standards by joining Mighty Earth for a rally to protect our rivers, lakes, and native ecosystems!

We’ll gather in front of Whole Foods at noon to hear community leaders speak and present our stack of over 1,500 petitions. Then we’ll march to the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge overlooking our treasured Colorado River to spread our message even further! The more people we have, the stronger our message, so bring your friends!

We can live in a world with both clean water and sustainably grown food. A few simple practices can dramatically reduce pollution and improve soil health: decreasing fertilizer use, diversifying crops, and managing manure responsibly. If we can get large companies like Whole Foods to call on their suppliers like Tyson and Cargill to commit to sustainable practices, the entire meat and feed industry will change for the better. Join us in creating real change; let your voice be heard at the Austin Clean Water Rally!
