Found: An Exploration of the Heart Through Assembling What Matters

January 12 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Found Art

Hosted by Austin Creative Reuse –

In this Make and Take Class we will be assembling a shadowbox using found objects. The focus of this particular project will be using found materials / keepsakes we have from a loved one / pet who has passed, and assembling them into a piece of art that can be displayed in your home or space as a remembrance.

The idea is to make art out of our small meaningful things / objects, that tend to stay in boxes or closets, to display them so we can always remember our friends and family. By using items we find in our environment as part of the project, we are also making an effort to reduce the things we buy and throw away. Instead of buying something from the store every time we make art, we can observe our surroundings and find objects that might otherwise be overlooked or discarded, and make those into something that is meaningful that lives on and can be shared.

There are hundreds of people moving to Austin everyday and that means a lot more unnecessary things thrown into the trash everyday. Let’s work to reuse what we have and make art together!

Many items will be provided at the workshop but please bring a few small remembrances to personalize your piece. All participants will take a work of art home with them.
