Program:  Citizens’ Climate Lobby with Anna Graybeal

At this point it’s pretty obvious that 97 percent of climate scientists are correct: climate change is happening.  What may be less obvious is that we have some powerful policy tools to help rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One of the most elegant involves putting a price on carbon. Anna Graybeal, co-founder of the Austin chapter of the volunteer-based organization Citizens’ Climate Lobby, will make the case for one specific version of this policy: “Fee and Dividend”.  She will show how this policy has features that could make it attractive to people from across the political spectrum, and outline actions all citizens can take to help build the political will for its legislative passage.

Anna Graybeal earned a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Harvard University and a PhD in evolutionary biology from the University of California at Berkeley.  While on a post-doc at the University of Texas at Austin, facing a personal crisis of meaning, she decided to switch fields.  She returned to grad school and earned a PhD in clinical psychology from UT Austin and has been in private practice since 2004, specializing in anxiety, relationships and group psychotherapy.  In 2012, grave concerns about climate change prompted her to co-found the Austin chapter of the volunteer based organization of Citizens’ Climate Lobby.

Consider biking, carpooling, or taking Cap Metro to the meeting. Free parking is available after 6pm on San Jacinto and nearby streets.
