Program: Waller Creek Conservancy
Waller Creek is a thin, urban riparian ecosystem that meanders from the northern part of Austin southward through UT campus and along the eastern edge of the downtown area before it meets Lady Bird Lake. The Waller Creek Conservancy, in a unique public-private partnership with the City of Austin, acts as the steward of Waller Creek by playing a vital role in the preservation, redevelopment and maintenance of the creek’s surrounding parks, nearby businesses, adjoining neighborhoods and community at large.
Speaker: Peter Mullan, CEO of Waller Creek Conservancy since January 2015. He previously served as executive VP of Friends of the High Line (2004-2014), a not-for-profit organization responsible for envisioning, creating and maintaining the High Line, a public park in New York City. There he was responsible for all aspects of the physical development of the High Line, including planning, design, construction, and collaboration with the City of New York. An architect by training, from 1997 to 2004 Peter was a designer at Polshek Partnership Architects (now Ennead Architects), where he led a series of master planning and design projects for universities and cultural institutions, including the Brooklyn Museum, the Yale University Art Gallery and Arts Area Master Plan, and the University of North Carolina Arts Common. Peter is a graduate of Princeton University and the Yale School of Architecture.
