From the City of Austin Development Services Department –

Did you know trees:

  • Increase property values by up to 20%?
  • Reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 30%?
  • Clean the air and promote health, reducing instances of childhood asthma?
  • Reduce stress and promote outdoor activity?
  • Help keep our rivers clean and pollutant free?

Austin loves trees

Austin was the first city in Texas to pass a comprehensive tree protection ordinance. Our ordinance protects our community’s trees and preserves their many benefits by restricting their removal and limiting activity that might damage their root systems.

Do you know how to help your trees stay healthy and keep their value while avoiding large fines and violations? Do you know when you need a tree permit or how to apply for one? Join Daniel Priest and Doug Dear, inspectors with the City Arborist Program, for discussion, food and refreshments on May 28 at the Cepeda Branch library and become Tree Smart. Kids’ activities will be provided.

Through this workshop participants will:

  • Learn about Austin’s tree ordinance and how the City Arborist Program supports it
  • Gain a clear understanding of when a permit is required and how to apply for one
  • Learn about how to care for trees to increase property value and support a healthy environment
