How To Stay Safe During This Weekend’s Storm

flash flood watch has been issued for the Austin area from Friday afternoon through Monday morning as a result of Hurricane Harvey. The storm is expected to hit the Gulf Coast of Texas on Friday and bring anywhere from 8 to 20 inches of rain to Central Texas (with the heaviest rainfall coming east of I-35).

Local officials are warning people to be on the lookout for flooding, especially while driving. Information about low water crossings and and local flooding conditions can be found at Remember – turn around, don’t drown!

If you’d like to receive emergency warnings for your neighborhood, you can also sign up for WarnCentralTexas, which allows emergency personnel in your community to directly contact you by phone, text, or email during a disaster or public safety event. Using WarnCentralTexas, emergency response teams can warn you about dangerous conditions and situations as events unfold. They can also quickly give specific directions that affect your neighborhood, such as evacuation orders and directions to shelters. You can sign up here>>
