Improvements Are Coming To The MetroRail

New MetroRail

What's Inside...

Some major improvements are coming to Austin’s only local train system, the MetroRail. Two new MetroRail trains arrived last week from their manufacturer in Switzerland (and two more will arrive in April). In addition to adding more trains, Capital Metro is also adding more double tracking along the 32-mile MetroRail Red Line so that trains can pass in more places. Right now, there are only two stations that have tracks on both sides of the platform, which allows both northbound and southbound trains to operate at once.

These improvements will be implemented over the course of the next year, and once more double tracking is added (along with the new trains), the MetroRail will run every 15 minutes during peak times, as opposed to every 30 minutes, as it does now. It will also be able to double the amount of riders it carries per hour. More info>>
