The Fall [Permaculture] Talks – 7:00 – 8:30 PM plus optional discussion at Habitat Suites Hotel – Wed., Oct 28
Texology – Where did Austin come from? Where has it been? And, so what?
An important part of Sustainability is “Knowing One’s Place” – not in a social sense but knowing all about your area’s land, soil, water, climate, sun, wind, growing seasons, native plants/animals, and more and more. Why? To help us cooperate with Nature and tease a living/subsistence/bounty while leaving enough for other creatures and a surplus to allow Nature to prosper as well. Austin may not be ecologically “weird” but it sure is different and there is a lot going on here and a lot that has gone on here. It should be fun to learn why we have such different growing seasons, tough resourceful plants and animals, alkaline soils and water, and no oil/gas. Come and find out and ponder what it means to you or what you might do to line up with Nature for this available bounty.

Fall [Permaculture] Talk – PC & Alternate Finance, Banking, Commerce – and You
The world is going to change – commerce, goods, services will be created/ delivered in different ways. Where do we go from the global economy, world trade organizations, economic nationalism/imperialism, economies in crises, cultures in decline, eroding family/community values, global warming, the end of cheap, available oil? What do we do about global warming, peak oil, run-away consumption, depleted resource reserves, the energy crisis? Pretty grim, huh?
What are some ways to best prepare for these trends? What directions/actions might make the world, or at least our part of it, a whole load better? What can we do to stop/slow the train? Change its direction toward the good? There’s hope! And, a lot of it is up to you and me – and it can be fun, rewarding work

Ideas for us/today from other cultures, other times, other places.
If you are happy with today’s world, your role in the good things
that are happening, and confident that our course/speed will be
good for our grandchildren…then there is no reason for you to
attend. If you’d like to think about/explore ways that other people
bear/raise children, educate and discipline, obtain food, goods,
services, or relate to each other – then you might otta’ think about
