Thanks to Melanie and Mark McAfee, we are having our Graduation Pot-luck at the magnificent Barr Mansion on Wed., May 13, 6:30 – 10:30 pm

Thanks to the over 120 graduates of the Spring 2009 Permaculture Design and Citizen Gardener classes, we have a great reason to get together and celebrate.

Thanks to a little rain and a growing (pun intended) core of dedicated, resourceful C-TX Farmers, Ranchers, Farmers Markets, Distributors, and support groups there is a wonderful abundance of fresh, nutritious, delicious, safe Local Food – we still have the spring green crops and now the Peaches, Blackberries, Tomatoes, Summer Squash,…..are starting.

It’s time, in mid-May, for Austin/C-TX to have a Local Food Celebration (and include Texas wineries and breweries as well, if you like).

You show up, with a dish that you made, with love, from primarily Local, In-Season ingredients that you purchased from a [small] local farmer, rancher, market, or distributor. In case you need to know, the Farmers Markets are in full bloom each Saturday from 9 – 1:00, downtown at Republic Square and at Sunset Valley, and several farm stands, like Boggy Creek Farm, are brimming and bustling. The attachment has lists of the great local veggies/meats available.

The aforesaid dish, a beverage of your choice, and a smile is all you need. Please come and help us celebrate, enjoy the food and the company, congratulate these new grads – many of whom will have used veggies from their own new gardens. Help push the viability, reliability, nutrition, and down-right fun of being a part of the Local Food Scene – whether you are a gardener, farmer, rancher, volunteer, market person, cook, restaurateur, ….or just like to eat tasty stuff. Come on over!…but please RSVP.
