Austin City Council Member Greg Casar (District 4) is speaking about green jobs at the First Unitarian Universalist Church. Casar will be discussing ways that Austin can connect its many green initiatives to economic development, creating a more equitable and environmentally-friendly future for the city. [Picnic] Sunday, May 31st from 12:30pm to 3pm Edible Austin and the Contemporary Austin are hosting a picnic at the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park on the grounds of the Laguna Gloria. The event is a celebration of some newly commissioned artwork, which will be on display. There will also be local food and drink, along with a cookie decorating activity station. This month's Young Sierrans Happy Hour will be at Whole Foods.[Happy Hour] Monday, June 1st at 6pm the Young Sierrans are holding their monthly happy hour, this time at the Whole Foods Outdoor Plaza. The Young Sierrans are a group of Sierra Club folks between the ages of 21 and 39. At this happy hour, they'll be offering up ideas about what's next for the group and planning for their next few events. More info>>

 


[Gardening Class] Wednesday, June 3rd from 6pm to 7:30pm the Sustainable Food Center is hosting a summer gardening class at its headquarters on East 17th Street. Students will learn which vegetables are best equipped to tolerate Austin's long and hot summers, as well as how to shade plants from super sunny days. The Sustainable Food Center is hosting a tomato canning class on Wednesday.[Canning Class] Wednesday, June 3rd from 6:30pm to 8:30pm the Sustainable Food Center is hosting a tomato canning class at its headquarters on East 17th Street. This hands-on class will teach students how to can tomatoes three ways – whole, crushed, and roasted. And as an added bonus, each student will go home with their very own jar of canned tomatoes.
